1st European Festival for School Choirs

As a strong advocate of Youth and Education, the Municipality of Kalamaria organised the 1st European Festival for School Choirs, from May 13th to May 15th. The main objective of this effort was to bring to the spotlight and promote the work of musicians, music instructors and children as well as adolescents who participate in school choirs in Northern Greece. In its European dimension, the festival aimed to bring together and encourage interaction between children form culturally diverse European backgrounds.
Music constitutes the common ground on which ethnic cultures of the European womb meet.
The 1st European Festival of School Choirs of the Municipality of Kalamaria was especially dedicated to Ancient Greek music, coinciding with the celebrations for the International Aristotle Anniversary Year. The events which were  held parallel to the festival included a presentation of the most representative musical instruments, constructed by special researchers.
The ambition of the organisers is that the School Choir Festival will become an important musical and cultural institution. The festival was organized under the art direction of Conductor Ioannis Koukas, director of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of the Municipality of Kalamaria.
